Ingredients

Matcha Mixture

  • 1 teaspoon (3g) Matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) hot water (176°F or 80°C)

Yuzu Tonic

  • 2 tablespoons yuzu juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz) light tonic water
  • Ice as needed

Instructions

  1. Brew the matcha. In a small matcha bowl or mixing bowl, sift the matcha powder to remove any clumps. Then add the hot water at around 176°F (80°C) and whisk the matcha vigorously in a side-to-side motion until it becomes frothy and fully combined.
  2. Assemble the tonic. In a small serving glass, combine the yuzu juice and honey, stirring until the honey is completely dissolved. Next, add the light tonic water followed by ice cubes to chill the drink.
  3. Top with matcha. Gently pour or spoon the freshly brewed frothy matcha over the tonic mixture to create a layered effect. Serve immediately and enjoy the blend of energizing and refreshing flavors.

Notes

  • Use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha for the best flavor and vibrant color.
  • Adjust the amount of honey to taste if you prefer a sweeter or less sweet tonic.
  • Ensure the water used to brew the matcha is not boiling to avoid bitterness.
  • Light tonic water works best for a balanced taste without overpowering sweetness.
  • For a cooler drink, chill the glass beforehand or add more ice as desired.
