Ingredients

Juices and Liquids

  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)

Fruits and Roots

  • 2 navel oranges, peeled
  • ¼ cup fresh ginger, washed and chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh turmeric (or ¼ tsp dried turmeric)

Spices

  • ⅛ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Juice the lemons and peel the oranges. Wash and chop the fresh ginger and turmeric if using fresh. These fresh ingredients provide the bright, spicy flavors critical for the shot.
  2. Blend all components: In a high-powered blender, combine the lemon juice, water, optional olive oil, peeled oranges, chopped ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. Blend until smooth to fully incorporate the ingredients and release their flavors.
  3. Strain the mixture: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a large bowl to remove pulp and fibrous bits. Gently squeeze if using cheesecloth, working in batches to avoid clogging and ensure a smooth liquid.
  4. Store and serve: Transfer the strained liquid into 2 oz glass jars for individual shots, or one larger 12 oz mason jar. Refrigerate and consume chilled as a concentrated health shot.

Notes

  • Olive oil is optional but adds a nice emulsifying texture and healthy fats.
  • Fresh turmeric is preferred for the best flavor and potency, but dried turmeric works if fresh is unavailable.
  • Black pepper enhances turmeric absorption, making this combination more effective.
  • Consume the shots within 3 to 5 days refrigerated for freshness and potency.
  • Adjust the ginger amount based on your spice tolerance.
