Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Liquids and Dairy

  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Condiments and Seasoning

  • 2 Tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Pasta

  • 2 cups dry elbow macaroni

Instructions

  1. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain the excess fat to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion turns translucent and the garlic becomes fragrant, building a flavorful base.
  3. Simmer Macaroni: Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir in the dry elbow macaroni, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover the skillet and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes until the macaroni is tender and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
  4. Add Cream and Cheese Sauce: Stir in the heavy cream, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, dijon mustard, ketchup, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the cheese melts completely and the sauce becomes creamy and well combined.
  5. Rest and Serve: Remove the skillet from the heat and let the dish rest for a couple of minutes to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease in the final dish.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you prefer a bit of heat.
  • For a lighter version, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
