Ingredients

Fruit Base

  • 2 cups frozen berries of choice (280 g of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, or a mixture)

Thickening Agent

  • 2 tbsp chia seeds (24 g)

Sweetener (Optional)

  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Heat Berries: Place the frozen berries into a small saucepan and heat them over medium heat. Stir occasionally as the berries thaw and release their juices. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes, producing a juicy berry mixture.
  2. Mash Berries: When the berries are fully thawed and juicy, use a fork or potato masher to mash them to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or smoother.
  3. Add Chia Seeds: Stir in 2 tablespoons of chia seeds evenly into the mashed berries. If using a sweetener like maple syrup, add it at this stage and adjust the sweetness according to your taste. Optional flavorings like vanilla extract or lemon zest can be mixed in now. Turn off the heat and leave the mixture sitting on the warm stove for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the chia seeds to absorb liquid and thicken the jam.
  4. Store: Enjoy the jam immediately if you like a softer texture, or transfer it to a sealed container and refrigerate. The jam will continue to thicken in the fridge and can be stored for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • You can use any combination of frozen berries to customize flavor.
  • Maple syrup is optional and can be adjusted depending on your desired sweetness.
  • Adding vanilla extract or lemon zest at step 3 enhances flavor complexity.
  • Storing the jam in the fridge will thicken it further as the chia seeds continue to absorb liquid.
  • Consume within one week for best freshness.
