  • Cuisine: Italian-American

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 large chicken breasts
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Toppings

  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F) and grease the air fryer basket to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Slice each chicken breast in half horizontally and pound them until they are about half an inch thick. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
  3. Set Up Breading Station: In one bowl, whisk the large egg. In a second bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Bread the Chicken: Dip each chicken piece first into the egg, then press firmly into the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat for all chicken pieces.
  5. Air Fry: Place the breaded chicken breasts in the greased air fryer basket, spray both sides lightly with cooking spray, and air fry for 9 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  6. Add Toppings: Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and spoon 1/4 cup of marinara sauce evenly over each piece. Sprinkle the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses on top.
  7. Melt Cheese: Return the basket to the air fryer and air fry for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • For even cooking, pound chicken breasts to an even thickness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) internally for safe consumption.
  • Use cooking spray to get a crispy crust without frying in oil.
  • Feel free to substitute marinara with your favorite tomato sauce.
  • Pair with a side of pasta or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
