Ingredients

Tuna Salad

  • 16 ounces tuna fish, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Sandwich

  • 16 slices bread
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese (add more if you want a layer on the bottom)
  • Tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prepare tuna salad: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, finely chopped celery, red onion, Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Assemble sandwiches: Butter one side of each slice of bread. Place the buttered side down on a clean surface. On the unbuttered side, layer cheese slices, a generous amount of tuna salad, tomato slices, and additional cheese if desired. Top with another slice of bread, butter side up.
  3. Cook using skillet method: Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until the underside is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt. Flip the sandwich carefully and cook the other side until fully golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
  4. Alternatively, cook using broiler method: Preheat the broiler. Place bread slices butter side up on a baking sheet and toast for a couple of minutes until lightly golden. Remove, add cheese slices and tuna mixture on top, then return to broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts and sandwiches are heated through.

Notes

  • Use canned tuna packed in water or oil based on preference.
  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat or multigrain bread.
  • Add extra cheese on the bottom slice for a cheesier sandwich.
  • Make sure to butter the bread evenly to achieve a crispy, golden crust.
  • Customize by adding pickles or a dash of hot sauce to the tuna salad for extra flavor.
  • If using broiler method, watch closely to prevent burning.
