Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1-oz bag freeze-dried strawberries
  • 4 cups rice or corn Chex cereal
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberry Powder: Place freeze-dried strawberries in a food processor and blitz until they become a fine powder. Alternatively, use pre-packaged dried strawberry powder for convenience.
  2. Mix Sugar and Strawberry Powder: Combine the freshly made strawberry powder with powdered sugar in a bowl, stirring until the mixture is uniformly pink. Transfer this mixture into a 1-gallon freezer bag and seal it.
  3. Melt White Chocolate: Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave by heating in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth and fully melted. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate to prevent burning.
  4. Coat Cereal with Chocolate: Fold the melted white chocolate into the cereal within a large bowl gently, ensuring all pieces are coated while keeping the cereal intact without crushing it.
  5. Combine with Strawberry Sugar: Transfer the chocolate-coated cereal into the prepared freezer bag containing the strawberry powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag and gently toss to evenly coat each piece of cereal with the sugar and strawberry mix.
  6. Set the Coating: Spread the coated cereal onto a baking sheet in a single layer and place it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set properly.
  7. Store and Serve: Once set, transfer the puppy chow to an airtight container. Store it at room temperature or in the fridge until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • For convenience, freeze-dried strawberry powder can replace the need for processing strawberries.
  • Use rice or corn Chex cereal as per preference, but avoid crushed cereal to maintain texture.
  • Melt chocolate gently to avoid burning and graininess.
  • Refrigerating after coating helps the chocolate set firmly, enhancing texture and ease of eating.
