Ingredients

Jalapeno-Mango Guacamole

  • 1 avocado
  • Juice from 1/2 small lime
  • 3 tablespoons loosely packed cilantro
  • ¼ cup diced mango (or more to taste)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, diced
  • Salt to taste

Spiced Jerk Burgers

  • 1 pound ground turkey (or use ground chicken or pork)
  • 3-4 tablespoons jerk seasoning (or more to taste)
  • 1 medium jalapeno, diced
  • ¼ cup diced mango
  • 1 small shallot, diced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup bread crumbs (or more as needed)
  • Olive oil as needed for cooking
  • 4 buns
  • Bib lettuce leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Guacamole: Peel and pit the avocado, then add it to a large mixing bowl. Add the lime juice, cilantro, diced mango, diced jalapeno, and salt. Mash the mixture with a fork until fairly smooth. Adjust seasoning with salt as needed and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  2. Mix the Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, jerk seasoning, diced jalapeno, diced mango, shallot, beaten egg, and bread crumbs. Mix by hand gently to combine without overmixing to prevent a mealy texture. If the mixture feels too wet, add a bit more bread crumbs to firm it up.
  3. Form Patties: Shape the meat mixture into 4 equal quarter-pound patties, ensuring they are compact but not overly dense.
  4. Cook the Burgers: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the patties and sear for a couple of minutes on each side until nicely browned. Cover the pan and cook the burgers through completely, about 10 minutes, flipping once halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Place each cooked burger on a bun with bib lettuce leaves. Top generously with the jalapeno-mango guacamole. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the jerk seasoning and jalapeno amounts to control the spice level to your taste.
  • If preferred, ground chicken or pork can be used as substitutes for ground turkey.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the patties and the heat of the pan; ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) for poultry.
  • Guacamole can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to a day.
