Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 2 quarts water
  • 4 cups orange juice (fresh-squeezed, pulp removed)
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • ½ cup lemon juice (fresh-squeezed, pulp removed)

Tea and Flavorings

  • 10 tea bags (such as English Breakfast or Lipton)
  • 10 whole cloves

Sweetener

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Steep the Tea: In a large pot, bring 2 quarts of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove the pot from heat and add 10 tea bags. Let the tea steep until it develops a rich color, about 10 to 15 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags.
  2. Add Juices and Sweeteners: Return the pot to medium-low heat. Stir in 4 cups orange juice, 1 cup pineapple juice, ½ cup lemon juice, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 10 whole cloves. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Simmer and Warm: Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it simmer gently for 2 minutes. Then, either lower the heat to keep the beverage warm or remove it from heat if you plan to serve it chilled.
  4. Serve or Store: Serve the Russian Tea warm or allow it to cool completely to serve over ice. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar to taste, start with less and add more if desired.
  • Using fresh-squeezed juices enhances the flavor vastly over bottled juices.
  • The cloves add a subtle spicy aroma; remove them before serving if preferred.
  • This drink can be enjoyed hot in colder seasons or cold as a refreshing summer beverage.
  • Store properly refrigerated to maintain freshness.
