Ingredients

Tea

  • 3 bags black tea
  • 3 cups boiling water

Sweetener

  • 1/4 cup sugar

Fruit

  • 6 passion fruits (see note)

Instructions

  1. Boil the water: Bring 3 cups of water to a rolling boil using a kettle or stovetop pot to ensure it is hot enough to steep the tea effectively.
  2. Steep the tea: Place the 3 black tea bags in the boiling water and allow them to steep for 3 to 4 minutes to extract a robust flavor. Remove the tea bags once steeped.
  3. Dissolve the sugar: While the tea is still hot, stir in 1/4 cup of sugar thoroughly until it is completely dissolved, creating a sweet base for the iced tea.
  4. Prepare passion fruit pulp: Cut the 6 passion fruits in half and scoop out the pulp carefully, removing any seeds if desired for smoother texture.
  5. Combine and chill: Add the passion fruit pulp directly into the sweetened tea mixture. Allow the tea to cool slightly before refrigerating or serving over ice.
  6. Serve: Pour the passion fruit iced tea over a glass filled with ice cubes to enjoy a cold and flavorful tropical drink.

Notes

  • Fruit substitution: If fresh passion fruit is unavailable, use frozen passion fruit pulp or puree that has been thawed in the refrigerator.
  • Make-ahead tip: Brew the tea and chill it in the refrigerator ahead of time. Add the passion fruit pulp just before serving to maintain freshness.
