Ingredients

Cheese Mixture

  • 6 oz. full fat sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons softened butter
  • 8 oz. shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh cracked pepper, to taste

Olives

  • 7 oz. green olives, drained and sliced
  • 6 oz. black olives, drained and sliced

Bread

  • 8-10 oz. loaf French bread
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) to prepare for baking the bread with the cheese mixture.
  2. Mix Base Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, garlic powder, softened butter, and a large pinch of kosher salt and freshly cracked pepper. Stir the mixture until it becomes mostly smooth and creamy.
  3. Add Cheese and Onions: Stir in the shredded Monterey Jack cheese and sliced green onions to the sour cream mixture, ensuring they are well combined.
  4. Incorporate Olives: Gently fold the sliced green and black olives into the cheese mixture, distributing them evenly throughout.
  5. Prepare Bread: Slice the French bread loaf in half widthwise, then cut each half in half lengthwise so you have four pieces with cut sides facing up.
  6. Spread Mixture: Evenly divide the olive cheese mixture among the four bread pieces and spread it in an even layer over the cut sides of the bread.
  7. Bake: Place the bread pieces on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges start to turn golden brown.
  8. Broil: Switch the oven to broil setting and broil the bread for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully until the cheese turns a dark golden brown to add a crispy top layer.
  9. Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, garnish with fresh parsley, slice, and enjoy this flavorful olive cheese bread warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to watch the bread closely during the broiling step to prevent burning.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or fresh herbs like thyme into the cheese mixture.
  • This bread is best served warm right after baking, but leftovers can be reheated briefly in the oven.
  • Substitute Monterey Jack cheese with mozzarella or a mild cheddar for a different flavor profile.
