Ingredients

Pasta

  • 8 oz Spaghetti

Beef and Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon Canola or Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Pound Ground Beef (or ground chuck)
  • 4 Cloves Garlic (minced)
  • ½ Cup Soy Sauce
  • ½ Cup Orange Juice
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Sweet Chili Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch

Garnish

  • 2 Green Onions (sliced, plus more for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a boil and add the spaghetti. Cook until al dente according to the package instructions, typically about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat the canola or vegetable oil in a cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and minced garlic, breaking up the meat with a meat chopper or spatula. Cook until the beef is browned all the way through, about 3-5 minutes. Drain excess grease from the pan.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In a glass measuring cup or bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, orange juice, brown sugar, sweet chili sauce, toasted sesame oil, and cornstarch until smooth and combined.
  4. Simmer the Beef in Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef in the pan. Stir well and simmer on medium heat until the sauce thickens slightly, adjusting heat as necessary to avoid burning, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve: Plate the cooked spaghetti and spoon the Korean ground beef and sauce mixture over the top. Garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh finish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using ground chuck provides more flavor, but lean ground beef can be substituted for a lower-fat option.
  • Adjust the brown sugar and chili sauce quantities to taste for sweeter or spicier variations.
  • Be sure to drain excess grease from the beef to prevent the sauce from becoming too oily.
  • To make it gluten-free, use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free noodles.
  • Fresh orange juice is preferable for the best flavor, but bottled juice works in a pinch.
