Ingredients

1 box vanilla cake mix (15.25 oz)

1 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup milk

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the batter in the pan.
  6. Spoon the remaining batter over the cream cheese layer, covering as much as possible.
  7. In another bowl, whisk cocoa powder and milk together, then drizzle over the batter.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool completely before slicing. For best results, refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Swap vanilla cake mix for chocolate mix for a richer version.
  • Use white chocolate or caramel chips instead of regular chocolate chips.
  • Add raspberry or strawberry jam for a fruity layer.
  • Mix espresso powder into cocoa drizzle for a mocha twist.
