Ingredients

For the Irish Coffee

  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon dark brown sugar
  • 4 ounces hot coffee
  • 1 ½ ounce Irish whiskey

Instructions

  1. Whip the Cream: In a medium bowl, whisk the heavy whipping cream until it lightly thickens and just begins to hold a soft peak, which takes about 2 to 3 minutes by hand. Tilt the bowl while whipping for better aeration. The cream should be frothy enough to scoop and float on coffee but not too stiff. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Warm the Mug: Fill a tall mug or glass with hot tap water and let it sit for approximately 2 minutes to warm the glass. Discard the water before making the cocktail to keep the mug warm. This step is optional but helps maintain the drink’s heat.
  3. Dissolve the Sugar: Add the brown sugar to the warmed glass, then pour in the hot coffee. Stir thoroughly to dissolve the sugar completely.
  4. Add the Whiskey: Measure 1 ½ ounces of Irish whiskey using a jigger and pour it into the coffee mixture. Stir briefly to blend the ingredients evenly.
  5. To Serve: Gently float about 1 inch of the whipped cream on top of the coffee. Optionally, garnish with sprinkles or chocolate shavings for extra flair. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Do not overwhip the cream; it should be soft and pourable to float atop the coffee.
  • Warming the mug helps keep the Irish Coffee hotter for longer.
  • Use fresh strong coffee for best flavor.
  • You can adjust the amount of whiskey according to taste.
  • Optional garnishes like nutmeg or chocolate shavings enhance presentation and flavor.
