Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 1 cup Milk (preferably full fat)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Chia seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch saffron (crushed with your fingertips)

Toppings

  • 3 tablespoons raw pistachios (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Mix the ingredients: In a mason jar or a container, combine rolled oats, milk, sugar, chia seeds, cardamom powder, salt, and crushed saffron. Stir well to evenly distribute all the ingredients.
  2. Refrigerate overnight: Cover the jar or container tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, allowing the oats to absorb the liquid and flavors to meld. It can stay refrigerated up to 2 days.
  3. Prepare to serve: Before serving, stir in half of the chopped pistachios into the oats. Taste and add more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
  4. Garnish and enjoy: Serve the oats topped with the remaining chopped pistachios for added crunch and flavor.

Notes

  • Use full-fat milk for creamier texture; alternatives like almond or soy milk can be used but may alter taste and texture.
  • Soaking time of 6 hours is minimum; for best results, soak overnight for optimal softness.
  • Saffron adds an authentic Indian flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Chia seeds add nutritional benefits and help thicken the oats, but you can skip them if desired.
  • This recipe is best served cold but can be warmed slightly if preferred.
