Ingredients

For the Hummus:

1 (15 oz) can chickpeas

3 tbsp lemon juice

2 tbsp tahini

12 garlic cloves

½ tsp salt

For the Ground Beef & Toasted Pine Nuts:

3 tbsp pine nuts

1½ tbsp extra virgin olive oil (divided)

½ lb lean ground beef

1 tsp 7 spice (or cinnamon/allspice)

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

Fresh parsley for garnish

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Make the Hummus: Optional: Peel chickpeas by rubbing them in water for a creamier texture. Drain and blend chickpeas in a food processor until powder-like.
  2. Add lemon juice, tahini, garlic, salt, and 2-3 ice cubes. Blend for about 5 minutes until smooth. Adjust seasoning if needed. Spread hummus onto a serving plate and swirl with the back of a spoon.
  3. Toast Pine Nuts: In a pan over medium heat, heat ½ tbsp olive oil. Toast pine nuts until golden. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook Ground Beef: In the same pan, add remaining olive oil. Add ground beef and season with 7 spice, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Assemble: Spoon warm ground beef over hummus. Top with toasted pine nuts, parsley, and a drizzle of olive oil. Serve with pita bread or chips.

Notes

  • Use ice cubes when blending hummus for a silky smooth texture.
  • Peeling chickpeas is optional but improves creaminess.
  • Serve beef warm on top of room-temperature hummus.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
