Ingredients

Butter Mixture

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 pinches ground cloves or anise
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt

Drink

  • 3/4 cup spiced rum (more or less, to taste)
  • 3 cups boiling water (approximately, more or less, to taste)
  • Optional: whipped cream for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter mixture: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves or anise, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt together until all ingredients are well combined and smooth.
  2. Mix the drink: Place the prepared butter mixture in the bottom of a pitcher or a large glass measuring cup. Add the spiced rum, then pour in boiling water starting with 2 cups. Whisk the mixture thoroughly until it is fully combined and smooth.
  3. Taste and adjust: Taste the drink and add more boiling water if needed to suit your preference, aiming for a total of about 3 cups of water. Whisk again to combine.
  4. Serve immediately: Pour the hot buttered rum into individual mugs or glasses and serve right away. Optionally, garnish with whipped cream for a richer presentation and flavor experience.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of rum and water to taste based on how strong or diluted you prefer your drink.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a vegan butter alternative.
  • Garnish with whipped cream or a cinnamon stick for added flavor and presentation.
  • This recipe is ideal for serving 4 people.
  • Mixing the butter mixture ahead of time and refrigerating it can save time when preparing the drink later.
