Ingredients

Tofu Preparation

  • 14 oz. extra firm tofu
  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce, divided
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Honey Sriracha Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp sriracha
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper

Instructions

  1. Press the Tofu: Press the tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Use a tofu press or place the block on a tray, top with a flat object like a cutting board, and add a heavy weight on top. After 30 minutes, pour off the extra liquid to ensure tofu crisps nicely during cooking.
  2. Prepare the Honey Sriracha Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together sriracha, honey, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, and crushed red pepper. Set the sauce aside to let the flavors meld.
  3. Cut and Dry the Tofu: Slice the pressed tofu into ½-inch cubes. Gently pat the cubes dry with paper towels to remove surface moisture, which helps achieve crispiness.
  4. Coat the Tofu: In a large bowl, combine the cooking oil and remaining 1 teaspoon soy sauce, whisk lightly to blend. Add the tofu cubes and gently stir until coated evenly.
  5. Add Cornstarch: Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cornstarch over the tofu cubes, stir gently. Repeat twice more until all 1 tablespoon cornstarch is incorporated, creating a light coating to enhance crispiness.
  6. Fry the Tofu: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat until hot. Add the tofu cubes and fry in the oil coating, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10 minutes until tofu is browned and crispy on all sides.
  7. Glaze the Tofu: Pour the prepared honey sriracha sauce over the tofu, stir to coat evenly, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the glaze thickens and becomes sticky.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sliced green onions on top before serving to add a fresh, flavorful touch.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is essential for achieving a crispy texture.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha and crushed red pepper to control the spice level.
  • Use a non-stick skillet to prevent sticking and ease frying.
  • Serve with steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.
