Ingredients

Chicken

  • 1.5 lbs chicken breasts, diced very small
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Sauce

  • 1 tsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger or 1 tsp dried ginger
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

To Garnish and Serve

  • Sesame seeds
  • Spicy mayo
  • Cooked rice
  • Steamed broccoli

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts into small bite-sized pieces for even cooking and easier eating.
  2. Coat the Chicken: Place the diced chicken in a large bowl and toss with flour, salt, and pepper until each piece is evenly coated, which helps create a light crust when cooking.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat and add olive oil. When hot, add the chicken pieces and cook for about 6-7 minutes, stirring every minute or so, until the chicken is no longer pink inside.
  4. Make the Sauce: While the chicken cooks, whisk together arrowroot powder with soy sauce until smooth. Stir in honey, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, sriracha, garlic powder, and onion powder to create a flavorful honey garlic sauce.
  5. Simmer in Sauce: Once the chicken is cooked through, reduce the heat to medium-low and pour the sauce over the chicken. Stir to coat all pieces well and let simmer for about 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens to your preference.
  6. Serve: Plate the honey garlic chicken over warmed rice and steamed broccoli. Garnish with sesame seeds and drizzle or dollop spicy mayo on top to add creaminess and an extra kick.

Notes

  • You can substitute arrowroot powder with cornstarch for thickening the sauce.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha to control the heat level according to your preference.
  • For a gluten-free option, ensure the soy sauce is gluten-free or use tamari.
  • Leftover chicken can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
  • Serving with steamed broccoli and rice balances the dish with vegetables and a neutral grain.
