Ingredients

1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian Rolls

3 large eggs

¾ cup half and half (or whole milk)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons brown sugar

Pinch of salt

4 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted)

Powdered sugar, for topping

Fresh fruit, for serving

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and half and half until smooth.
  2. Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt. Whisk until fully combined.
  3. Poke a few holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll using a toothpick or skewer to help absorb the custard.
  4. Soak a few rolls at a time in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and melt.
  6. Add soaked rolls to the skillet and cook each side (top, bottom, and all 4 sides) for about 30 seconds, or until golden brown.
  7. Repeat with remaining rolls, adding more butter as needed.
  8. Serve warm topped with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and maple syrup.

Notes

  • Don’t soak the rolls too long—30 seconds is enough to keep them from getting soggy.
  • Use a non-stick skillet and cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  • Try stuffing rolls with cream cheese or jam for a fun variation.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in a toaster oven or air fryer for best texture.
