Ingredients

Cookies and Base

  • 24.4 ounces Red Velvet Oreos (2 packages of 12.2 oz each, approximately 44 cookies)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature

Coating

  • 15 ounces light green candy melts (white chocolate candy wafers)
  • Red candy hearts for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking during chilling and coating.
  2. Crush Oreos: Using a food processor, pulse the Red Velvet Oreos into fine crumbs. Alternatively, use a blender, or place Oreos in a sealed plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin until finely ground.
  3. Mix Cream Cheese: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric hand mixer on high speed until smooth and creamy.
  4. Combine Oreo Crumbs and Cream Cheese: Add the Oreo crumbs to the cream cheese and mix thoroughly until well combined forming a dough-like mixture.
  5. Form Balls: Use a 1.5-inch cookie scoop to portion the mixture, then roll each portion between your hands to form smooth balls. Place them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the balls for at least 2 hours to help them firm up and hold their shape during dipping.
  7. Reserve Candy Melts: Set aside ½ cup of the green candy melts for later drizzle decoration.
  8. Melt Candy Coating: In a double boiler over low heat, melt the remaining candy melts, stirring frequently until smooth and fully melted. Avoid overheating or adding water to prevent seizing.
  9. Dip Balls: Using a fork or toothpick, dip each chilled ball into the melted candy, ensuring full coating. Tap off excess coating on the side of the pot, then return the coated balls to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Drizzle Decoration: For extra decoration, melt the reserved ½ cup candy melts in a microwave-safe piping bag on low heat (defrost setting) for 30 seconds, massage to mix, and repeat if necessary until melted. Snip a small tip off the bag and drizzle over the coated balls. Immediately top each with a red candy heart before the drizzle sets.
  11. Set Coating: Place the decorated balls back in the refrigerator until completely set, firm, and ready to serve.

Notes

  • Be careful when melting candy melts to avoid overheating and prevent seizing—use low heat and no water.
  • Softened cream cheese at room temperature mixes more smoothly with the Oreo crumbs.
  • Using a cookie scoop helps achieve uniform-sized Grinch Balls for consistent chilling and coating.
  • If you don’t have a double boiler, you can carefully melt candy melts in the microwave in short bursts, stirring often.
  • Store finished Grinch Balls in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
