Ingredients

Coating

  • 12-ounce box Corn Flakes Cereal
  • 1/2 cup Salted Butter
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 to 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon

Main

  • 1/2 gallon Vanilla Ice Cream

Toppings (Optional)

  • Honey
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Whipped Cream
  • Maraschino Cherries
  • Strawberries (fresh, diced)
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Dulce de Leche
  • Sweetened Coconut (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crush Corn Flakes: Keep the corn flakes in their package and crush them into small flakes using a rolling pin, ensuring an even texture for the coating.
  2. Prepare Coating Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the salted butter. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, cooking the mixture until it becomes bubbly and the sugar dissolves completely, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Coat Corn Flakes: Add the crushed corn flakes to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring thoroughly to coat each flake evenly. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool completely to prevent melting the ice cream during coating.
  4. Form Ice Cream Balls: Scoop firm vanilla ice cream using an ice cream scoop, quickly shaping each scoop into a baseball-sized ball with clean hands to maintain the shape.
  5. Coat Ice Cream Balls: Roll each ice cream ball thoroughly in the cooled corn flake mixture until well coated on all sides. Place coated balls on a tray lined with wax or parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  6. Freeze Until Firm: Return the coated ice cream balls to the freezer and chill for 1-2 hours, or overnight, to ensure they become very firm before serving.
  7. Serve: When ready to enjoy, drizzle the fried ice cream balls with honey or caramel sauce. Top with fresh whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Optionally, add fresh diced strawberries tossed in sugar, sweetened coconut, chocolate syrup, or dulce de leche for extra flavor and decoration.

Notes

  • Ensure the ice cream is very firm before forming balls to prevent melting.
  • Chill coated ice cream balls thoroughly to maintain shape and texture when served.
  • You can customize toppings based on preference; fresh fruit and various sauces work well.
  • This recipe does not require frying despite the name, making it quicker and less messy.
  • Serve immediately after adding toppings as coated ice cream will start to soften.
