Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 onion, chopped

1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce

1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans

1 (14.5-ounce) can stewed tomatoes, with juice

1 ½ cups water, or as needed (optional)

1 teaspoon chili powder, or more to taste

1 pinch garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned and onion is tender, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes with juice. Add water if you prefer a thinner consistency.
  3. Season with chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  5. Serve hot with your favorite sides or toppings.

Notes

  • Make it spicier by adding jalapeños, cayenne, or hot sauce.
  • Swap beans with black beans or pinto beans for variety.
  • Skip the water for a thicker chili consistency.
  • Add extra vegetables like bell peppers, corn, or zucchini for more nutrition.
  • Chili freezes well for up to 3 months.
