Ingredients

Meat

  • 6 slices bacon

Dairy

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Vegetables

  • 4 cups (32 oz) Brussels sprouts, bottoms removed and halved
  • 1/2 cup onion, minced (optional)
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the Brussels sprouts later in the recipe.
  2. Cook the bacon: Cut the bacon into small pieces and heat a large heavy-duty pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bacon pieces and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become crispy. If you prefer, you can skip this step if using pre-cooked bacon crumbles.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: Remove the cooked bacon from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of butter, then add the Brussels sprouts and minced onion. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning if using. Cook the mixture for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add heavy cream and cheese: Pour in the heavy cream and stir well until the mixture comes to a simmer. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Drizzle the shredded parmesan and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the Brussels sprouts. Sprinkle the cooked bacon on top.
  5. Bake the dish: Transfer the entire pan or mixture into a baking dish if the pan is not oven-safe, or place the pan directly into the oven. Bake for 15 minutes or until the Brussels sprouts are tender and the cheese has melted and begun to golden.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use plant-based cheese or extra parmesan.
  • Use pre-cooked bacon crumbles for a faster preparation.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic and Italian seasoning based on personal preference.
  • Make sure the pan is oven-safe if baking directly in the skillet; otherwise, transfer to a baking dish.
  • This dish can be refrigerated and reheated, but is best served fresh for optimal creaminess.
