Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

2 garlic cloves, grated

1 small red onion, grated

1 small tomato, grated

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried mint

1/2 cup dried breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)

2 tbsp whole milk (or plant-based alternative)

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

1 egg

2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

Salt and black pepper to taste

45 medium baking or waxy potatoes

1 lemon (zest and juice)

2 tbsp olive oil (for potatoes)

1 garlic clove, grated (for potatoes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef with grated garlic, onion, tomato, oregano, mint, breadcrumbs, milk, parsley, egg, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Combine well.
  3. Slice potatoes into thick wedges and place in a roasting tray. Toss with lemon zest, lemon juice, grated garlic, oregano, olive oil, salt, pepper, and a splash of water.
  4. Shape beef mixture into 4 patties and nestle among the potatoes. Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
  5. Cover tray with foil and bake for 10–12 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for 30–35 minutes until potatoes are golden and patties are cooked through (internal temp 160°F).
  6. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Add chili flakes to patties for extra heat.
  • Top with cheese slices in the last minutes of baking.
  • Substitute beef with lamb or chicken for variation.
  • Serve in buns with tzatziki for a Greek burger.
  • Pair with a side salad for a complete meal.
