Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour (23 g)
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (25 g)
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (7.5 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder (1 g)
  • dash of salt (0.5 g)

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons milk (any kind, 45 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil (or melted butter, 15 ml)
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (0.6 ml)

Add-ins

  • 1 tsp chocolate chips (or your favorite baking chips, 5 g)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mug: Lightly spray the bottom of a microwave-safe mug or coffee cup with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in the mug. Stir them together until evenly mixed.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in the milk, canola oil, and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly until the batter is smooth, making sure to scrape the bottom of the mug to incorporate all the ingredients.
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: Stir the chocolate chips into the batter or sprinkle them on top to melt during cooking.
  5. Microwave Cooking: Cook the mug cake in the microwave for 70-90 seconds until the cake is just set but still slightly shiny on top. Cooking times may vary depending on your microwave’s power.
  6. Rest Before Eating: Allow the cake to rest in the microwave for 1 minute to finish cooking and cool slightly before eating.

Notes

  • Cooking times may vary: start with 70 seconds and increase in 10-second intervals if needed to avoid overcooking.
  • Use any type of milk you prefer, including dairy or plant-based alternatives.
  • You can substitute canola oil with melted butter for a richer flavor.
  • For an extra gooey center, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top before microwaving.
  • Be careful when removing the mug from the microwave as it can be hot.
