Ingredients

Char Siu Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 teaspoons dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maltose)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon five spice powder
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (or Kecap Manis, optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients thoroughly to create the Char Siu sauce base.
  2. Heat Sauce: Place a saucepan over medium to low heat, pour in the mixed sauce and stir well to blend all flavors.
  3. Simmer and Cool: Once the sauce begins to bubble and boil slightly, remove it from heat and let it cool completely before using.

Notes

  • This sauce can be used as a marinade or glaze for pork, chicken, or tofu.
  • Honey can be substituted with maltose for a more traditional texture and sweetness.
  • If Kecap Manis is unavailable, sweet soy sauce can be omitted or replaced with additional sugar for sweetness.
  • Adjust the amount of five spice powder to taste based on personal preference.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
