Ingredients

Fruit

  • 20-25 grapes (washed and completely dried)

Candy Coating

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • White gel food coloring
  • Other gel colors of your choice (e.g., neon pink, sky blue)
  • 2 teaspoons flavored oil of your choice
  • Sprinkles for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Grapes: Wash your grapes thoroughly by using a fruit wash or soaking them in water with a splash of white vinegar for about 5 minutes. Rinse them well and dry completely to ensure the candy coating adheres properly.
  2. Skewer the Grapes: Insert a skewer into each grape carefully and set them aside on a clean surface, which will make dipping easier and safer.
  3. Make the Candy Syrup: In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup, stirring gently to mix the ingredients without splashing.
  4. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium to medium-high heat. Insert a candy thermometer ensuring the tip is submerged in the syrup but not touching the pan’s bottom. Cook without stirring until the temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  5. Remove from Heat and Add Flavoring and Color: Once at 300°F, remove the pot from heat immediately. Stir in a few drops of white gel food coloring and 2 teaspoons of your chosen flavored oil to infuse taste and enhance appearance.
  6. Add Additional Colors: Add 3-4 drops of your selected gel food colors and gently swirl with a spoon or skewer to create a marbled or multi-colored effect as preferred.
  7. Coat the Grapes: Dip each skewered grape into the hot candy mixture, rotating it to ensure full and even coating. Let the excess drip off before optionally rolling the grape in sprinkles to add texture and decoration.
  8. Dry the Candy Grapes: Place the coated grapes on parchment paper or a silicone mat to dry at room temperature for about 15 minutes. For faster setting, you may refrigerate them for about 10 minutes until the candy shell hardens completely.

Notes

  • Ensure grapes are completely dry before dipping to prevent the candy from losing its crispness.
  • Use a candy thermometer for precise cooking to reach the hard crack stage (300°F) to get a crisp shell.
  • Work quickly when dipping grapes as the candy syrup hardens fast once removed from heat.
  • Flavored oils add extra taste; popular options include vanilla, almond, or fruit flavors.
  • Be cautious when handling hot sugar syrup as it can cause severe burns.
  • Use food-grade skewers or sticks suitable for candy making for safety and presentation.
