Ingredients

For the Cocktail

  • 2 ounces tequila
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed calamansi juice
  • 1 ounce orgeat syrup or agave syrup
  • Ice cubes

For the Glass Rim

  • Li hing salt (see notes) or margarita salt
  • 1 slice calamansi lime, for rimming the glass

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glass: Rub the edge of a cocktail glass with a slice of calamansi lime to moisten it, then dip the rim into li hing salt or margarita salt to coat it evenly. Fill the glass with fresh ice and set it aside.
  2. Mix the Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, orange liqueur, freshly squeezed calamansi juice, and orgeat or agave syrup along with ice. Shake vigorously for about 10-12 seconds until the mixture is well chilled.
  3. Strain and Serve: Carefully strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over the ice. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh, vibrant flavors. Cheers!

Notes

  • Li hing salt is a popular Hawaiian seasoning made from dried plum powder, sugar, salt, and licorice. It adds a unique sweet, salty, and slightly tangy flavor to the margarita rim.
  • If li hing salt is not available, margarita salt or kosher salt can be used as a substitute.
  • Orgeat syrup adds a nutty almond flavor, but agave syrup can be used as a vegan-friendly alternative.
  • Freshly squeezed calamansi juice provides a bright citrus note that is more sour and less sweet than typical lime juice.
