Ingredients

Gelatin Cubes

  • 4 (3 ounce) boxes Jello gelatin, assorted colors
  • 4 cups boiling water

Milk Mixture

  • 2 (0.25 ounce) envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Gather Ingredients: Collect all the necessary ingredients including the assorted flavored Jello boxes, unflavored gelatin, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and water.
  2. Dissolve Flavored Gelatin: Dissolve each 3 ounce box of flavored Jello gelatin individually by mixing it with 1 cup of boiling water. Pour each flavor into its own shallow container (no more than 1-inch deep) and chill in the refrigerator until the gelatin is fully set, approximately 3 hours or overnight.
  3. Cut Gelatin Cubes: Once the gelatin is firm, cut each flavor into small square cubes carefully to maintain their shape.
  4. Arrange Cubes: Gently mix the cut gelatin cubes together in an even layer inside a 9×13 inch glass dish, taking care not to break or tear the cubes to keep the visual effect intact.
  5. Prepare Milk Gelatin Mixture: In a medium bowl, dissolve the 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of hot water. Allow this mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the can of sweetened condensed milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
  6. Combine Mixture with Cubes: When the milk mixture is cool enough to the touch (to avoid melting the gelatin cubes), pour it evenly over the layered gelatin cubes in the dish.
  7. Chill to Set: Refrigerate the assembled dessert overnight to allow the milk gelatin mixture to fully set around the colorful gelatin cubes.
  8. Serve: Once fully set, cut the dessert into squares and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk mixture is cooled to room temperature before pouring over gelatin cubes to prevent melting them.
  • Use a glass dish to better showcase the colorful gelatin cubes.
  • This dessert can be made a day ahead for convenience.
  • Be gentle when mixing the gelatin cubes to maintain their shapes for the ‘broken glass’ effect.
