Ingredients

Dry Herb and Spice Mix

  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Fresh Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon (2-3 large cloves) minced fresh garlic (do not use jarred minced garlic)
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Liquid Ingredients

  • About 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil per serving of mix

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dry Mix: In a small bowl, combine all the dried herbs and spices except for the olive oil, fresh garlic, and Parmesan cheese. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of flavors.
  2. Store Dry Mix: Store the dry herb and spice mixture in an airtight container. If fresh garlic is not added, the dry mix can be stored in your pantry for up to 6 months; if fresh garlic is added, refrigerate and use within one week.
  3. Mix for Serving: When ready to serve, take 1 tablespoon of the dry mix and stir it into about 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Add 1 tablespoon of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and the minced fresh garlic if desired for extra flavor.
  4. Serve: Pour the blended oil mixture into a small dipping bowl and serve alongside fresh crusty bread for dipping.
  5. Store Leftover Mixture: Store any unused combined mixture with fresh garlic and Parmesan in the refrigerator and consume within seven days.

Notes

  • Use fresh minced garlic for the best flavor; avoid jarred garlic as it can alter the taste.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level.
  • Parmesan cheese is optional but adds a rich, nutty flavor to the dipping oil.
  • Keep the dry mixture airtight and away from moisture to maintain freshness.
