Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

For the Stir Fry:

  • 8 oz (225 g) noodles (egg noodles, udon, or rice noodles)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cups (200 g) broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger

Optional Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Let the beef marinate for 10–15 minutes for maximum tenderness and flavor.
  2. Cook the Noodles: Prepare the noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain them well and set aside until ready to add to the stir fry.
  3. Prepare the Sticky Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar or honey, sesame oil, water, and cornstarch until smooth. Set this sauce aside.
  4. Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir fry for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Stir Fry the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Stir fry the broccoli florets, red bell pepper slices, and julienned carrot for 3–4 minutes, until the veggies are tender-crisp. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for 1 more minute until aromatic.
  6. Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sticky sauce over everything. Stir constantly and cook for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and veggies.
  7. Add Noodles and Toss: Add the drained cooked noodles to the skillet. Toss everything together using tongs or two spatulas to evenly coat the noodles in the sticky sauce and mix the beef and vegetables throughout.
  8. Serve: Plate the stir fry immediately. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Enjoy while hot.

Notes

  • For extra heat, stir some chili flakes or sriracha into the sauce.
  • You can substitute beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu to suit your protein preference.
  • Save time by using frozen stir-fry vegetable blends instead of fresh veggies.
  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • For gluten-free, use tamari and ensure your noodles are gluten-free.
