Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 36 Club crackers (or any buttery cracker)
  • ½ lb. regular sliced bacon (do not use thick cut)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional or substitute with black pepper)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F to prepare for baking the bacon crackers evenly.
  2. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, then place a wire rack on top and spray the rack with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Arrange Crackers: Lay the crackers in a single layer on top of the wire rack to ensure even cooking.
  4. Prepare Bacon: Cut the bacon into thirds or fourths if pieces are very long, and place one piece of bacon on each cracker.
  5. Make Sugar Mixture: Combine brown sugar with cayenne pepper (or black pepper if preferred) in a bowl, then sprinkle about a teaspoon over each piece of bacon on the crackers.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 22 minutes or until the bacon has browned and crisped to your liking. Watch carefully to avoid over-browning the crackers.
  7. Cool Slightly: Before the bacon crackers cool completely, gently loosen them from the rack to prevent sticking.
  8. Cool Completely: Allow the crackers to cool fully on the wire rack so they harden and become perfectly crispy before serving.

Notes

  • Use regular sliced bacon, not thick cut, for optimal crispiness and baking time.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to taste or substitute with black pepper for a milder spice.
  • Ensure crackers are arranged in a single layer for even cooking.
  • Watch baking time closely to prevent over-browning the crackers.
  • Allow the bacon crackers to cool completely on the rack to maintain crisp texture.
