Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans
1 (14.5-ounce) can stewed tomatoes, with juice
1 ½ cups water, or as needed (optional)
1 teaspoon chili powder, or more to taste
1 pinch garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned and onion is tender, about 5–7 minutes.
 - Stir in tomato sauce, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes with juice. Add water if you prefer a thinner consistency.
 - Season with chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
 - Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes to let the flavors meld.
 - Serve hot with your favorite sides or toppings.

Notes
- Make it spicier by adding jalapeños, cayenne, or hot sauce.
 - Swap beans with black beans or pinto beans for variety.
 - Skip the water for a thicker chili consistency.
 - Add extra vegetables like bell peppers, corn, or zucchini for more nutrition.
 - Chili freezes well for up to 3 months.
